10 January, 2012 (18:55) | Events, Fellowship | By: Tom Westrick

With mixed emotions, we would like to let everyone know that one
of our very own, Emily Milanowski, has accepted a new job and will be
relocating to Petoskey, MI over the next few weeks. We would like to
send her off to the far North with well wishes and happy memories and
so we will be having a going away party for her this Friday from 7 pm
to midnight at Emily Raap’s house (see facebook event for address). Please
BYOB and a snack to pass.

January Speaker-Pat Nugent

10 January, 2012 (18:50) | Events, Fellowship | By: Tom Westrick

This week Wednesday, we’ll be hosting our first speaker of 2012!
Please help us welcome Pat Nugent who will be speaking on the topic of
sainthood and canonization. He is currently the head of the religion
department at West Catholic High School where he has taught since
1993. He is the advisor of the Quiz Bowl team and Students for Life
and serves as the Chairman of the North Central Accreditation process.
He is also an author of “A Bold Diocesan Venture: Catholic Central and
West Catholic High Schools 1906-2006.” So please come join us, it
should be a great talk (I know I very much enjoyed the class I had
with Mr. Nugent back in my West Catholic days!). We will be meeting
in the Connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit at 7:30 pm as usual
and will be heading out to Applbees afterwards for a bite to eat.

Our Annual Connect Planning Retreat is coming up fast!  We will be having it on Sunday, January 8th from around 10 am until around 5 pm at Brian Nolan’s house (1930 Roberts Road North Muskegon, MI).  We’ll be attending the 9 am Mass at Prince of Peace Parish in North Muskegon (1110 Dykstra Rd North Muskegon, MI 49445) and meeting back at Brian’s at 10:15am.  This is where we lay out the framework for all the activities we will be doing throughout 2012 (TOTs, corporate communions, canoe/camping trips and any new activities you’d like to add).  So please come join us.  We’d love to have your input and ideas!

It’s already the third week of December (finally almost Christmas!), which means we’ll once again be doing our monthly service project, cleaning at the Pregnancy Resource Center downtown (415 Cherry St. SE, Grand Rapids).  Please meet there at 6:30.  Afterwards we’ll be heading out for a bite to eat.  And for those of you that can’t make it this Wednesday, on behalf of the Connect Leadership team, we wish you a blessed Christmas with family and friends and hope to see you all back again next week 🙂

Theology on Tap-“Bearing the Cross” with Jim Murphy

13 December, 2011 (18:58) | Events, Theology on Tap | By: Tom Westrick

This week Wednesday, we’ll be having another Connect sponsored Theology on Tap at Derby Station (2237 Wealthy St.) at 7 pm.  We will be welcoming Jim Murphy and the topic will be “Bearing the Cross.”  Jim Murphy is the president of Vera Cruz Communications. Information on his bio can be found here: http://veracruzcm.com/full_article.php?article_no=455
Of particular note: “In 1992, inspired by the American Bishops’ letter Heritage and Hope, Jim undertook a 4200 mile journey on foot across America, carrying a 6 ft. cross in an effort of prayer and evangelization. The journey took 18 months…and 14 pairs of shoes!”

For those of you who are new to Theology on Tap, a presentation is given at a local restaurant while the audience relaxes and enjoys the food, drink, and ambiance of the location. It’s a relaxing way to learn a little and meet new people.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception Vigil Mass/Vision Meeting

5 December, 2011 (19:49) | Events, Vision Meeting | By: Tom Westrick

Because this Thursday is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is a holy day of obligation, this Wednesday, in place of our usual adoration and confession, we will be having a Vigil Mass at 8 pm in the Chapel at Holy Spirit with Fr. Mark.  This would take the place of going to Mass Thursday if you choose to attend.

Also, prior to this, at 6:45 in the Connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit, we will be having our monthly vision meeting. This meeting is particularly important, as we will be taking final nominations and voting on new officers for next year.  Connect is your group and we want you to determine how it’s run, so please come a little early and join us for the meeting!
