The time has come for Connect to host another TOT (Theology on Tap)! This Wednesday, please join us in the back room at Derby Station (2237 Wealthy St., Grand Rapids, Mi 49506) at 7pm. We’ll order food and socialize for a bit and then Dr. Dave Denbraber will be speaking on The Blessed Mother and her prominent role in our Catholic faith and prayer life. Dr. Dave Denbraber, a former NFL quarterback and motivational speaker, is a Grand Rapids native and is actively involved in outreach through his speaking at conferences, seminars and retreats with youth ministries and young adults. This should be a great time, so please join us and bring friends, Catholic or Non! It’s a very laid back, relaxed atmosphere, perfect for anyone new who might be interested in learning more about the group!

Following that, at around 7:45, we’ll be heading upstairs to the Chapel for Adoration and Confession with Fr. Mark. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend and were able to enjoy the nice weather. If not, well you can tomorrow! It’s supposed to be in the 60’s with no rain and so to take full advantage, we will be having our first Connect potluck and kickball game of 2012 against the newly formed St. Andrews Young Adult Group at the baseball fields behind Holy Spirit at 7:30 pm! Please check out the Facebook event below, RSVP and post what you will be bringing (hot dogs/hamburgers will be provided) so we don’t end up with 20 of the same thing. …also, it looks as though our former Connect President Ben Rexroat will be back in GR for a few days and able to join us this week! So mark your calendars and bring friends. It will be a great time, as those of you who have been to past ones already know!

This week Wednesday, we are back at Holy Spirit to watch the fifth episode of The Catholicism Series by Robert Barron that we started in January. This episode is titled “THE INDISPENSABLE MEN: PETER, PAUL AND THE MISSIONARY ADVENTURE” and a brief summary is below. We’ll be meeting in the Connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit at 7:30 to watch the film and have a short discussion and will then be heading over to Applebees to grab a bite to eat.
Father Barron calls Peter and Paul “two indispensable men, the ones without whom the church never would have emerged and survived.” In telling each man’s story, Father Barron shows how the Holy Spirit worked through all the apostles and disciples to build the Church. Following the trail of these apostles as they took the Gospel to the ends of the earth, Father Barron presents the foundations of the apostolic faith, particularly the revelation of Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

This week Wednesday, we’ll be meeting in the Connect room at Holy Spirit at 7:30 for our monthly speaker. This month we welcome Mark Mann, Director of family, youth, and young adult ministry for the Diocese of Grand Rapids! The topic will be “Made for Life” and we will be talking about the gift of children and the indispensable role of fathers and mothers in marriage and society. This is definitely a very relevant topic for most of us and should be a very interesting talk, so please come out and join us! And feel free to invite friends/family etc. who you think would enjoy the topic even if they haven’t been to connect before.

Wednesday 4/25, we’ll be back at Holy Spirit to watch the fourth episode in the Catholicism Series we started in January. It’s titled “OUR TAINTED NATURE’S SOLITARY BOAST: MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD” and a short summary is below. We’ll be meeting in the Connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit at 7:30 and will head over to Applebees afterwards for food and fellowship.
In this episode, Father Barron masterfully correlates the Catholic Faith’s testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as “an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church. Father Barron journeys to the humble remains of Mary’s house in Nazareth, to the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus and to the great Marian shrines of Lourdes and Guadalupe to explain the Church’s teachings about Mary as the Mother of God, the Immaculate Conception and the dogma of the Assumption.
