This week Wednesday, seeing as we have a 5th week this month, we will be having a Potluck and Kickball Game! We’ll meet on the bleachers behind Holy Spirit at 7pm(a little earlier than usual so we are done before dark) to eat and then divide into teams to play kickball. Please RSVP and post what you’ll be bringing on the event wall so we don’t all end up bringing the same thing If it rains, we will just move inside the Connect room and have a potluck and game night there. So if it looks like rain, bring some of your favorite games. It was a ton of fun when we did this in the spring and it is sure to be this time as well. So hopefully you can join us.

And coming up this weekend…we will be having a beach day! We’ll be meeting at Muskegon State Park at 2 pm for some fun in the sun and then afterwards, we are all invited to Brian and Tiffany Nolan’s house (see event for address) for some food and fellowship. Please RSVP to the event early this week so they’ll know how much food to get and also post on the wall if you’re interested in carpooling. If enough people are interested, we can probably just all meet in the Holy Spirit parking lot at a certain time to coordinate.

The ANNUAL CONNECT CANOE TRIP will be held the second weekend of July (Friday 7/12- Sunday 7/14). We will camp at Baxter Bridge Campground along the Manistee River Friday night. Saturday morning, we’ll load our gear into canoes and head off down the river. Once it gets to be dinner time, we’ll look for a nice flat spot on the side to set up camp for the night. Sunday morning we’ll load the canoe’s again and finish the trip at the canoe livery around noon or 1. If we can find a priest who’d like to join us, we’ll have mass along the river like we did last year. If we can’t, we’ll likely all go to evening mass later at St. Andrews Cathedral in downtown GR. I know we are carrying our gear with us and camping along the river instead of at an official campground, but please don’t let that scare you! This is by no means a ‘hard core’ camping trip for experts only. This trip is meant for everyone, even if you’ve never camped before. It’s very laid back and fun. We aren’t paddling all day every day. We stop several times along the way to go swimming, climb dunes, have lunch, shoot each other with water guns, swing on random rope swings if we happen to find some, etc. and in the evenings we hang out by the fire, make smores, maybe say a group rosary and just enjoy fellowship with great friends. The cost will be approximately $40-$50 per person, which includes the cost of the canoes and food for the weekend. Below is the link to the facebook event and more specific info will follow as the trip gets closer. If you haven’t come before, you should join us this year! So mark your calendars and RSVP!

Please join us at 7:30pm in the Connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit parish. Afterwards, we’ll head over to Applebees in Standale for a bite to eat.
2 July, 2013 (10:07) | Events, Vision Meeting | By: Tom Westrick
This week Wednesday, seeing as it’s the first Wednesday of the month already, we will be having our monthly Vision Meeting at 7 pm in the connect room in the basement of Holy Spirit to discuss upcoming events and activities for the group followed by Adoration and Confession with Fr. Mark in the chapel upstairs around 7:30-45. And we’ll head out to Applebees for a bite to eat afterwards like we usually do.

Also coming up this month is Connect Corporate Communion and Picnic on Sunday, June 30th! We will be meeting at St. Mary’s Church in Lowell (402 Amity St. Lowell, MI 49331) for 10am mass and will then head over to Fallasburg Park (1124 Fallasburg Park Dr NE Lowell, MI 49331) for a potluck style picnic outside. Try to arrive at the church a few minutes early so we can all meet in the lobby and find a place to all sit together. For the picnic, please bring a dish to pass and post what you’ll be bringing on the event wall so everyone’s not bringing the same thing. Also feel free to bring yard games, a frisbee, etc.

19 June, 2013 (15:58) | Events, Fellowship, Theology on Tap | By: Tom Westrick
Wednesday June 26th, we will be having our second Theology on Tap of 2013 from 7-10pm at Derby Station (2237 Wealthy St. SE East Grand Rapids, MI)! Sister M. Timothy Prokes, FSE, will be speaking on Social Communication. Here is a brief synopsis…We live in an increasingly “digitized environment.” How is this influencing our life patterns, our relationships, our life of Faith? In fact, how are the technological means of social communication changing us as human persons? In turn, positively, can we use the means of Social Communication more effectively as part of the New Evangelization? It should be a great discussion and something we can all relate to I’m sure. So come out and join us and bring friends, even if they’re not part of Connect already. TOTs are a great way to meet the group and get involved in a laid back fun atmosphere.
