Monthly Speaker-Jeff Duba on the topic of Advent

11 November, 2013 (19:10) | Events, Fellowship | By: Tom Westrick

This week Wednesday, we will be having our speaker for November.  Please come join us at 7:30 pm in the Chapel at Holy Spirit Church (our normal Connect room in the basement is currently undergoing renovations) and help us welcome Jeff Duba who will be speaking on the topic of Advent (seeing as it is just around the corner beginning on Dec 1st)!  Jeff was previously a religion teacher at Catholic Central High School and now runs his own company. Once we are done, we’ll head over to Applebees in Standale for a bite to eat and some time to socialize.

Monthly Vision Meeting/Adoration and Confession

5 November, 2013 (18:25) | Events, Fellowship, Vision Meeting | By: Tom Westrick

Coming up this week Wednesday, we will be having our monthly Adoration and Confession in the chapel at Holy Spirit with Fr. Mark at 7:30pm. For those who have not been, it is just time to sit quietly, pray and say the rosary as a group and is a great way to recenter yourself halfway through a busy work week.  It also gives you the chance to go to confession on a weeknight, which may be a little more convenient than going Saturday afternoon before mass. Once we’re done, we’ll head over to Applebees in Standale for a bite to eat and some time to kick back and socialize.

Also this week Wednesday, just prior to Adoration and Confession, we will be having our monthly vision meeting at 7pm.  Because our normal Connect room is undergoing some renovations, we will just meet in the Narthex (entrance/lobby of the church) and grab one of the open meeting rooms around it.  Unlike other weeks where we would just discuss upcoming events and ideas for the coming months, this time, we will be taking nominations for officer positions for the group for 2014.  Below is a short description of each position.  If you enjoy coming to Connect and have gotten as much out of it as I have and feel called to contribute to it’s future success or have great ideas for changes, please consider nominating yourself or someone you think would be a good fit for one of these positions.  We will not actually vote on officers until our December vision meeting so if you change your mind or think of anyone between now and then, just let us know and show up for the vote in December. Remember, Connect would not exist without all of you so we need your participation!

President-responsible for running vision meetings, coordinating Theology on Taps and other events with the officers and ensuring officers are fulfilling their duties.
Vice President of Formation-responsible for ensuring monthly speakers/videos/readings are booked and facilitating disussions around those activities.
Vice President of Service-plans/promotes monthly voluneering at the Pregnancy Resource Center and various other events throughout the year.
Vice President of Fellowship-plans/promotes monthly fellowship (social) events.
Vice President of Membership-responsible for promotion of the group, new member recruitment and planning various corporate communion’s at parishes in the area throughout the year.
Secretary-responsible for taking meeting notes, maintaining group calendar and sending out announcements/weekly emails.

Halloween Party

22 October, 2013 (20:18) | Events, Fellowship, Random | By: Tom Westrick

Join us for a spooktacular evening of food, friends and frights! I’ll be providing sloppy joes and pop/juice/water. Please bring a dish to pass and your own beverages if would like something besides pop/juice/water. Please post on the wall what you’re bringing so we don’t have duplicate dishes.

There will be a costume contest, so costumes are a must. If you show up without one, one will be provided. Be warned that my nieces have a lot of princess dress up clothes/accessories 🙂 We’ll probably cast our votes around 10ish.

Weather permitting we will have a bonfire. Either way our barn is where the festivities will take place. There will be cards, board games and some other Halloween themed games to play.

As always, free feel to bring friends and hope to see you there!

Connect’s SEVENTH Annual Trick-or-Can Food Drive

22 October, 2013 (19:51) | Community Service, Events | By: Tom Westrick

Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, we will be having Connect’s SEVENTH Annual Trick-or-Can Food Drive to benefit St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry!  We’ll get dressed up, meet at 5:30pm in the Connect room, get into teams and go door to door in the neighborhoods surrounding Holy Spirit and say “Trick-or-Can!” when someone answers the door.  Hopefully this results in lots of food donations, which we take to St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry where the food will be distributed to people in need for Thanksgiving. Afterwards, we’ll head out and grab a bite to eat.

Please note there will be NO meeting Wednesday, October 30.

Fr. John Geaney from the Cathedral will be speaking

7 October, 2013 (17:56) | Events, Fellowship | By: Tom Westrick

Seeing as it’s the second Wednesday of the month, that means we will be having a speaker!  Please come join us this Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Chapel just off the Narthex of Holy Spirit Church.  We will be welcoming Fr. John Geaney, rector of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in downtown GR.  We are still working on verifying the topic with him, but it should be a great discussion whatever it may be.  So hopefully you can make it!  Please note the meeting location this week is not in the usual Connect room in the basement, as it is currently being remodeled. And as always, we will grab a bite to eat at Applebees in Standale when we’re done.

Vision Meeting and Adoration/Confession

1 October, 2013 (11:47) | Events, Fellowship, Vision Meeting | By: Tom Westrick

Due to our regular Connect room undergoing a remodel, this week Wednesday, we will be meeting upstairs in the Holy Spirit Parish lounge, which is the first door on the left when you come in the front doors of the Church, for our monthly Vision Meeting at 7pm to discuss upcoming events and ideas for the group. Once we’re done, around 7:30-45, we’ll head over to the chapel for Adoration and Confession with Fr. Mark. And then out to Applebees afterwards of course.
