- Annual Connect Canoe Trip!
- Baxter Bridge Campground and the Manistee River
- For all you maybes and those who are interested but haven’t signed up yet, please RSVP to the Facebook event by this Thursday night at the latest so we’re able to get a final head count to plan for food, tents and canoes
It’s that time of year again, time for the Annual Connect Canoe trip on the Manistee River! Like in years past, we will camp at Baxter Bridge Campground (http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=594&type=SFCG) along the Manistee River Friday night. Saturday morning, we’ll load our gear into canoes and head off down the river. Once it gets to be dinner time, we’ll look for a nice flat spot on the side to set up camp for the night. Sunday morning we’ll load the canoe’s again and finish the trip at the canoe livery around noon or 1pm. And once back in GR, we’ll have mass as a group at St. Andrews Cathedral downtown.
This is by no means a ‘hard core’ camping trip for experts only. This trip is meant for everyone, even if you’ve never camped before. It’s very laid back and fun. We aren’t paddling all day, every day. We stop several times along the way to go swimming, climb dunes, have lunch, shoot each other with water guns, swing on random rope swings if we happen to find some, etc. and in the evenings we hang out by the fire, make smores, maybe say a group rosary and just enjoy fellowship with great friends.
The cost will be approximately $40-$50 per person, which includes the cost of the canoes and food for the weekend. If you haven’t come before, you should join us this year! So mark your calendars and RSVP today!
