Ash Wednesday Mass/Lectio Divina

7 March, 2011 (19:01) | Events, Fellowship | By: Tom Westrick

In honor of this Wednesday being Ash Wednesday, we will be attending mass as a group at Holy Spirit at 7 pm in place of our normal Wednesday activities (please meet in the back of the church around 6:45 ish so we can all sit together).  Following mass, we’ll be having Lectio Divina in the Connect room downstairs (below is a brief description for those who are unaware of what this is).  We will not be going out to Applebees after this as we usually do this week.

Lectio Divina is a Latin monastic form of meditative prayer. This is done by reading and re-reading a selected scripture slowly, several times and reflecting on what phrase or word stands out to you and the meaning that it holds for you. Then, you take this word or phrase that stands out and write on it, reflecting on what you feel and what God wants you to hear. This is a common form of prayer (especially used during the Lenten season) to help us better understand the scriptures and hear God’s word in our daily lives.
