Annual Connect Canoe Trip on the Manistee River!!!
The ANNUAL CONNECT CANOE TRIP will be held the second weekend of July (Friday 7/12- Sunday 7/14). We will camp at Baxter Bridge Campground along the Manistee River Friday night. Saturday morning, we’ll load our gear into canoes and head off down the river. Once it gets to be dinner time, we’ll look for a nice flat spot on the side to set up camp for the night. Sunday morning we’ll load the canoe’s again and finish the trip at the canoe livery around noon or 1. If we can find a priest who’d like to join us, we’ll have mass along the river like we did last year. If we can’t, we’ll likely all go to evening mass later at St. Andrews Cathedral in downtown GR. I know we are carrying our gear with us and camping along the river instead of at an official campground, but please don’t let that scare you! This is by no means a ‘hard core’ camping trip for experts only. This trip is meant for everyone, even if you’ve never camped before. It’s very laid back and fun. We aren’t paddling all day every day. We stop several times along the way to go swimming, climb dunes, have lunch, shoot each other with water guns, swing on random rope swings if we happen to find some, etc. and in the evenings we hang out by the fire, make smores, maybe say a group rosary and just enjoy fellowship with great friends. The cost will be approximately $40-$50 per person, which includes the cost of the canoes and food for the weekend. Below is the link to the facebook event and more specific info will follow as the trip gets closer. If you haven’t come before, you should join us this year! So mark your calendars and RSVP!
